Concept explainers
Interpretation: To determine the factor that classify an amino acid as essential or nonessential for humans.
Concept introduction: Essential amino acids are those amino acids which cannot be synthesized by the body via biosynthesis and thus must be taken from the outside in form of dietary protein to meet the body’s need. Those amino acids which can be synthesized by biosynthesis within the liver are termed as nonessential amino acids.
The essential amino acids are arginine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine.
The non-essential amino acids are alanine, asparagines, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamic acid, glutamine, glycine, proline, serine, and tyrosine.

- Proteases are one of the main drug targets. Choose the False statement regarding proteases. A. Proteases are enzymes that cleave peptide bonds. B. Water is a reactant in the reaction catalyzed by proteases. C. Proteases, like all enzymes show substrate specificity, meaning they cleave only substate that fit the bonding product. D. Proteases rely on the proton transfer from NADH to the substrate. E. Protease mechanism involves only acid-base catalysis.arrow_forwardRefer to image below: Identify the R-group of each molecule. * H3C. OH HS OH H2N. HO. ČH3 NH2 NH2 NH2 Choose A. Alkyl B. Sulfide C.
