The reason for not calling all compounds that smell nice are called aromatic and not all compounds called aromatic does not smell nice has to be explained.

Aromatic compounds:

These are the compounds which contain a benzene ring or other ring in which bonding is like that of benzene. The peculiarity of some aromatic compounds is that they have good smell. Some aromatic compounds do not have smell too.

Compounds that are planar, cyclic, conjugate and having (4n+2)π electrons are known as aromatic compounds.
