The distribution of the electrons in the molecules is described by the molecular orbital theory. The higher occupied molecular orbital is termed as HOMO and lower unoccupied molecular orbital is termed as LUMO.

In disrotatory cyclization, the end group atomic orbital rotates in a clockwise direction.
