Question
Chapter 8, Problem 8.45AP
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
In the two barbiturate derivatives, barbital and hexethal, the more powerful sedative is to be identified.
Concept introduction:
Lipids are organic compounds that are either fatty acids or fatty acid derivatives. They are insoluble in water, but are found to be soluble in organic solvents that are nonpolar. They are composed of natural oils, waxes and steroids.

Account for the experimental behavior of each class of amines (primary, secondary and tertiary) based on their relative reactivities with benzenesulfonyl chloride.
The compound acetophenone has a very similar molar mass to that of benzoic acid and benzamide. However, acetophenone has a much lower m.p. (20 °C) than both such that, by contrast, it is a liquid at room temperature. By considering intermolecular forces and comparing functional group structure, account for this big difference in physical properties.
