Chapter 23, Problem 16RQ

What is general outcome of catabolism?

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
To determine

The general outcome of catabolism.

Answer to Problem 16RQ

Ammonia ,water and carbondioxide are theoutcomes of the catabolism.

Explanation of Solution

Catabolism is a process which uses energy to break down larger biomolecules into ammonia, water and carbondioxide. It is helpful to break larger molecules to smaller ones, to carry out the proper functioning of the organ in the body. Digestion and cellular respiration are the example of the catabolism. Digestion is the process of hydrolysis of the food molecules in which the water molecule is used to sever bonds between the biomolecules. The small molecule formed will travel to each and every cell and will take part in to cellular respiration. During the hydrolysis of larger carbohydrate molecules, they get converted in to carbon dioxide, water and energy is released which is useful for each cell in the body to carry out different muscular functions. During this process the large molecule ATP is created which is helpful to carry out nerve impulse and muscle movement.

Conclusion:

Therefore, Ammonia ,water and carbondioxide are theoutcomes of the catabolism.
