Chapter 23, Problem 16TE

Is it possible to eat a food low on the glycemic index and still experience a significant increase in blood glucose?

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
To determine

Whether it is possible to experience increase in blood glucose after eating low glycemic index food.

Answer to Problem 16TE

No, it is not possible to experience increase in blood glucose after eating low glycemic index food.

Explanation of Solution

The glycemic index is the rating of the food through which one can get know that how fast the blood glucose level increasing in human body after having food. The food having high starch and sugar content are the examples of the food having high glycemic index. It is not possible to experience increase in blood glucose after eating low glycemic index food.

As, the food having low glycemic index which releases less sugar content to the blood, cannot increase the blood sugar level rapidly.

Conclusion:

Therefore, it is not possible to experience increase in blood glucose after eating low glycemic index food.
