Concept introduction:
The equatorial substituted conformer is more stable than the axial substituted conformer as there is more room for substituents in the equatorial position. Thus, the chair conformation that has maximum number of substituents or bulky groups in equatorial position is a more stable conformation. The more stable conformation has the smallest heat of combustion.
