Chapter 6, Problem 12RQ
Summary Introduction
To review:
Definition of the following terminologies:
(a)Oxidoreductase
(b) Lyase
(c)Ligase
(d)Transferase
(e)Hydrolase
(f) Isomerase
Introduction:
In the period before the enzymes nomenclature was done, there was no proper naming or numbering system to address the enzyme. To avoid the problems of ambiguity, the International Union of Biochemistry had given properguidelines to name an enzyme. The enzymes were classified into sixcategories according to the type of reactions they catalyze.
