Summary Introduction

To review:

The products formed when iodoacetamide reacts with an enzyme containing cysteine residue.

Introduction:

Irreversible inhibitors are typical enzyme inhibitors, which have a tendency to form covalent associations with enzymes. This covalent association results in the inactivation of the enzyme, because one of the key catalytic residues of the enzyme becomes modified. A characteristic inhibitor of most of the cysteine-containing amino acids is iodoacetate.
