In a study conducted in the Science Department of Faculty of Science, Technology and Human Development in a University; the researcher examined the influence of the drug succinylcholine on the circulation levels of androgens in the blood. Blood samples from wild, free-ranging deer were obtained via the jugular vein immediately after an intramuscular injection of succinylcholine using darts and a capture gun. Deer were bled again approximately 30 minutes after the injection and then released. The level of androgens at time of capture and 30 minutes later, measured in nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml), for 15 deers as in Table Q1.
Assuming that the populations of androgen at time of injection and 30 minutes later are normally distributed:i) Find the average and standard deviation of this studyii)Determine the critical region of this problem.iii) Test at the 0.05 level of significance whether the androgen concentrations are altered after 30 minutes of restraint.
A survey of high school students was done to examine whether students had ever driven a car after consuming a substantial amount of alcohol (1=yes, 0=no). Data was collected on their sex (male/female), race (White/non-White), and grade level (9,10,11,12). Researchers realized that the impact of race on consuming alcohol before driving might vary by grade level and decided to fit the following model.
Compute the OR of drinking before driving for students who self-reported as Black versus non-Black in the 9th grade, adjusting for gender.
Hello, thank you for helping me out with this. I'm just confused about the concept of adjusting for gender in this case. I am not sure if I should plug in 0 and 1 for the gender and report those out separately or if I should take both odds ratios and divide them?
Historically, the proportion of people who trade in their old car to a car dealer when purchasing a new car is 48%. Over the previous six months, in a sample of 115 new car buyers, 46 have traded in their old car. To determine (at the 10% level of significance) whether the proportion of new car buyers that trade in their old car has this is statistically significantly decreased, what can you conclude concerning the null hypothesis?
A) reject the null hypothesis
Or
B) fail to reject the null hypothesis

- A researcher is comparing the occurrence of nausea as a side-effect in two brands of medication: Brand A and Brand B. For a random sample of 150 Brand A users, 66 experienced nausea as a side-effect. For a random sample of 200 Brand B users, 118 experienced nausea as a side-effect. Can the researcher conclude that the proportion of all Brand A users who experience nausea as a side-effect is different from the proportion of all Brand B users who experience nausea as a side-effect. For the hypothesis testing scenario above, the researcher concludes that the two proportions are different at the 0.01 significance level. She found that women with higher cortisol responses to stress ate significantly more sweet food and consumed more calories on the stress day compared with those with low cortisol responses, and compared with themselves on lower stress days. Increases in negative mood in response to the stressors were also significantly related to greater food consumption. These results suggest that psychophysiological responses to stress may influence subsequent eating behavior. Over time, these alterations could impact both weight and health. You are interested in studying whether students living in the dorms or students living off campus have higher cortisol levels. You ask a sample of n₁ = 25 students living in the dorms and n₂ = 30 students living off campus to record their afternoon cortisol levels for a week. To determine whether a relationship exists between these two variables, she conducts the following pilot study. Eight- 12-year-old male volunteers are randomly selected from children attending a local junior high school. Parents of the children are asked to monitor the number of soft drinks consumed by their child over a one week period. The children are weighed at the end of the week and their weights converted into body mass index (BMI) values. The BMI is a common index used to measure obesity and takes into account both height and weight. An individual is considered obese if they have a BMI value 30.
