Grignard reagent reacts with the nitrile to form ketones. This reaction is similar to the reaction of Grignard reagent with aldehydes or ketones. The strong nucleophile of Grignard reagent reacts with strong carbon nitrogen triple bond of nitrile group. The reaction proceeds via imine intermediate formation which upon hydrolysis forms ketone.
