Chapter 25.5, Problem 3QQ
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The reason for the net ATP production being 2 less than the gross production during a β-oxidation process has to be determined.

Concept introduction:

The total ATP molecules produced by the oxidation of a fatty acid molecule is the sum of all the ATP molecules produced from the metabolic products, acetyl CoA, FADH2 and NADH. Acetyl CoA generated by the β-oxidation enters the citric acid cycle in the mitochondria where it undergoes oxidation to generate FADH2 and NADH. The FADH2 and NADH generated by both β-oxidation and the citric acid cycle are utilized by the mitochondrial electron transport chain to generate ATP molecules. These ATP molecules act as units of energy.

Blurred answer

Does the following inhibitors decrease ATP production or Blocks ATP production? a. DCCD b. FCCP c. Amytal d. Carboxin e. Cyanide
