Seawater containing 3.50 wt% salt passes through a series of 10 evaporators. Roughly equal quantities of water are vaporized in each of the 10 units and then condensed and combined to obtain a product stream of fresh water. The brine leaving each evaporator but the tenth is fed to the next evaporator. The brine leaving the tenth evaporator contains 5.00 wt% salt.
- Draw a flowchart of the process showing the first, fourth, and tenth evaporators. Label all the streams entering and leaving these three evaporators.
- Write in order the set of equations you would solve to determine the fractional yield of fresh water from the process (kg H2O recovered/kg H2O in process teed) and the weight percent of salt in the solution leaving the fourth evaporator. Each equation you write should contain no more than one previously undetermined variable. In each equation, circle the variable for which you would solve. Do not do the calculations.
- Solve the equations derived in Part (b) for the two specified quantities.

To purify highly polluted water, it is necessary to add 5 mg of this substance per litter of water. is there enough release substance for disinfection a water tank( length 8.0 m, width 4.0 m, depth 1.0m)arrow_forwardDraw a BFD for a desalination process. This process will vaporize water and condense the vapour to make pure water. Nearly 50% of the water will be desalinated by this process. The remaining water and salt will be cooled by mixing with sea water and returned to the sea.arrow_forwardYou have an aqueous solution of pyridinium chloride (C6H5N'HCI) and you want to extract it with a second solvent where it would be more soluble. Which of the following should you do to accomplish the said task? Mix 3M NaOH, acetone, and the aqueous layer in a separatory funnel, shake, release build-up pressure, return to A stand, and let the mixture separate into two layers. Mix methanol and the aqueous layer in a separatory funnel, shake, release build-up pressure, return to stand, and let the mixture separate into two layers. Mix 3M NaOH, toluene, and the aqueous layer in a separatory funnel, shake, release build-up pressure, return to stand, and let the mixture separate into two layers. Mix dichloromethane and the aqueous layer in a separatory funnel, shake, release build-up pressure, return to stand, D and let the mixture separate into two layers.arrow_forward

A 2 percent uranium oxide slurry (2 lb UO2 / 100 lb H20) flows into a 100 gallon tank at the rate of 2 gallons per minute. The tank initially contains 500 lb of H20 and no UO2. The slurry is well mixed and flows out at the same rate at which it enters. Find the concentration of slurry in the tank at the end of one hour.arrow_forward

- A 25mL volumetric pipet is used to deliver a sample of the stock solution marked “0.6000M X2SO4” into a 100mL volumetric flask. Distilled water is added to the flask until it is about 3/4thfull, the solution is mixed well, then more water is added to fill it up to the calibration mark, then it is mixed again.
