DEFINITION:Central Semitic, to make a pilgrimage. 1. Haggai, from Hebrew aggay, perhaps “born on a feast day,” from ag, pilgrimage-feast, from gag, to make a pilgrimage, keep a pilgrimage-feast. 2a. Dhu'l-Hijjah, from Arabic l-ijja, the one of the pilgrimage; b. haj, from Arabic ajj, pilgrimage. Both a and b from Arabic ajja, to make a pilgrimage; c. haji, from Arabic jj, pilgrim, active participle of ajja (see above).
