Van Dyck, Cornelius Van Alen
181895, American missionary, b. Kinderhook, N.Y. In 1840 he went to Syria as a medical missionary. In 1846 he was ordained in the Congregational ministry. Besides being the author of textbooks in Arabic and the translator of scientific and religious writings, he translated the Bible into Arabic, completing the work begun by Eli Smith.
