Haavelmo, Trygve
 
 
(trüg´v hävelm) (KEY) , 1911–99, Norwegian economist. In the 1940s, he was a pioneer in the field of econometrics, using mathematics and statistics in the formation of economic theories. In 1989, Haavelmo won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. He wrote A Study in the Theory of Investment (1960).
