Machilipatnam
 
 
(m´´shlpt´nm) (KEY) , Masulipatnam (m´´slpt´nm) (KEY) , or Bandar (bn´dr) (KEY) , city (1991 pop. 159,110), Andhra Pradesh state, E central India, a port on the Bay of Bengal. In the 17th cent. it was a center of French, British, and Dutch trade. It has a carpet-weaving industry; other products include rice, oilseed, and scientific instruments. The town is a district administrative headquarters, a railroad terminus, and an educational center.
