NOUN: A paste of fish roe, olive oil, lemon juice, and potatoes or moistened bread crumbs.
ETYMOLOGY:Modern Greek : taramas, preserved roe (from Turkish tarama, soft roe) + saláta, salad (from Italian insalata, from feminine past participle of insalare, to salt ( Latin in-, in, on; see in–2 + Vulgar Latin *salre, to salt, from Latin sl, salt; see sal).
