Alwar
 
 
(l´vr, –´wr) (KEY) , city (1991 pop. 210,146), Rajasthan state, N central India. On the Delhi-Jaipur Road, Alwar is a market for grain, oilseed, cotton, and marble. There are textile and oilseed mills, as well as paint, varnish, and porcelain factories. The city was the capital of the former Alwar state and is now a district administrative center. An old Rajput fort dominates the city.
