| pseud. Christopher North, 17851854, Scottish author. Among the first contributors to Blackwoods Magazine, he joined the staff in 1817 and quickly became one of its chief critical writers. His Tory sympathies gained him the chair of moral philosophy (182051) at the Univ. of Edinburgh. His best-known work is in the Noctes Ambrosianae, an occasional discursive feature of Blackwoods to which he contributed the majority of the articles. | 1 | | See memoir by his daughter, Mary Gordon (1863). | 2 |
